INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: every extra part is a bill that keeps coming due

A lot of teams treat part count like a small engineering detail, it isn’t. Every added part creates more cost, more sourcing risk, more assembly time, more tolerance problems, and more chances for something to go wrong in the field. It also gives manufacturing one more place to drift and quality one more place to fail.

That is why simple products are so hard to make well. Adding another bracket, insert, fastener, gasket, or trim piece almost always feels reasonable in the moment. Then the BOM grows, the stack gets uglier, the assembly sequence gets slower, and the thing becomes harder to build, harder to repair, and easier to screw up.

Part count is not a back-end issue. It is product strategy hiding inside the CAD.
