INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: hardware is still one of the last real moats

A lot of software founders are starting to feel the same pressure. Intelligence is getting cheaper. Software is getting easier to copy. Features that used to feel defensible are thinning out fast. That is part of why hardware still matters.

Not because it is easier. Because it is harder. A real hardware business has sourcing, manufacturing, packaging, logistics, compliance, margin pressure, and physical quality all stacked on top of what has to be an amazing user experience. That complexity creates friction, and friction is a lot harder to clone than code.

The catch is that hardware forces you to build a business where only some of it is under your control. Suppliers slip, costs move, timelines shift, and reality pushes back. That is frustrating, but it is also part of the moat.

For founders coming from software, that is the trade. More cooperation, but more defensibility.
