INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: the holy grail is a customer who comes back, not short-term profits

Every designer I know gets their energy from the same moment. You see someone experience the thing that was once just an idea in your head for the first time and their face lights up.

That reaction is real. But a reaction is not the real goal, it's persistence. Does it hold up on day thirty? Does it still feel considered six months in? Does the person trust the name enough to buy again? Do they love it enough to recommend it to their friends without hesitation?

That is the difference between a product and a brand. A product wins on first impression. A brand turns a reaction into a relationship. The designers thinking past the purchase and into the long relationship between a person and an object they chose to keep, those are the ones building something that lasts.

Pretty is not enough. Useful is not enough. The thing has to persist.
