INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: what it is and why you need it
If you've never worked with an industrial designer, here's the short version of what we do and how it goes.
We turn a product idea into something that can be made, sold, and used. Not just how it looks, but how it feels in the hand, how it's assembled, what it costs to build, and whether a customer intuitively understands how to use it.
The work runs in stages. We start with the user and understanding their problems. Then rough concepts and sketches. Narrow to one direction and refine the form. Then CAD, materials, and finishes. Finally we help get it built at quality and at a margin that holds.
A good designer makes business calls the whole way, not just pretty ones, but the ones that matter to the customer.
There are a lot of great freelancers and small studios out there, each strong in different products and markets. Go find the one that fits yours.
