Apple’s rumored foldable optimizes for tablet mode, not phone mode. It opens to match their smallest tablet’s aspect ratio. They’re thinking tablet that folds, not phone that opens.

That changes the inner edge story. MacBooks have sharp inner edges—because closed aesthetics matter more than open comfort. But with a foldable tablet, those edges become your primary grip. They have to feel good. Which means they’ll be rounded. Even if it creates a visible gap when closed.

That tells you where their priorities are. They’ll sacrifice visual perfection when closed, to serve experience when open.

Most foldables still worship symmetry and sleekness. Apple is about to break that religion.
