INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS: STOP LOOKING FOR YOUR CREATIVE TWIN

Most designers, it seems, want to collaborate with someone who thinks like they do. Same taste. Same instincts. Same answers.

But while on a recent call with Hartmut Esslinger,he said something that stuck:

“Don’t look for someone like you. Look for your opposite.”

Since that call I’ve heard the same thing repeated more than once.

Because creative magic doesn’t come from agreement. It comes from friction. From challenge. From someone who doesn’t let you fall in love with the easy idea.

That’s how you get work that surprises you. Work that grows legs. Work that makes you better.

The best partnerships are built on contrast, not consensus. You bring the emotion. They bring the systems. You dream. They distill.

That tension? That’s where it starts to get good.

I’m building something right now. It’s called Crafted by. And while I’ve got the vision, the experience, and the fire, I’m taking the advice of Hartmut and others that have already paved the way.

So I’m looking.

I’m a storyteller. A builder. A pattern-breaking creative who leads with instinct and obsession.

I’d like to find someone who thinks differently.

Someone with structure. Clarity. Precision.

If you think you might be my opposite, or know someone who could be, I’d love to talk.
