Why INDUSTRIAL DESIGN thought leadership matters

Let’s be honest. Most designers don’t want to post.

It feels awkward. Self-important. Like you’re trying too hard.

If people don’t see you, they won’t think of you. If they don’t hear from you, they won’t remember you. And if they don’t know how you think, they won’t hire you to think at all.

Thought leadership isn’t about ego. It’s about earning trust before you’re needed.

It’s about showing people how you think, so when the time comes to hire or collaborate, you're already on the shortlist.

It’s not about immediate ROI. It’s about positioning. Visibility. Long-term relevance.

So if you’re mentoring students, running a Discord, or helping shape the ID conversation in your corner of the internet, keep doing it.

Because the more visible our ideas become, the more valuable this field becomes.

And the more valuable this field becomes, the more doors open for all of us.

So you’re not JUST building a brand. You’re also paving the way for the next designer who thinks like you, see’s the world like you, and is questioning whether they belong here.
