INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: founders don’t need design, they need certainty

Most founders think they want better design. What they actually want is fewer unknowns before they commit real money.

Tooling risk, minimum order quantities, unstable cost structures, missed lead times, and the first production run failing under pressure. These are the things that really cause them to lose sleep.

The real problem is that many believe that Industrial design is just styling, it’s not. It’s disciplined decision making under constraint with consequences attached - risk reduction.

It’s about translating early concepts into something a factory can execute predictably. Reducing risk before capital hardens.

When products stall, it is rarely because the team lacks talent or skills. It is because there is no one there trained to own the difficult transition between prototype and production.

That transition is where products live or die.
