INDUSTRIAL DESIGN STUDENTS The Work Isn’t Enough
It’s easy to obsess over the work. The visuals. The polish. The case studies.
And yes, your portfolio matters. It shows you can design.
But the truth is, most people who make it to the interview can design. What separates you isn’t the work, it’s how you show up.
Can you talk through your thinking without freezing? Can you defend an idea without getting defensive? Can you hold the room, sell the vision, and stay steady when it gets uncomfortable?
Because that’s what hiring managers are looking for.
Being able to design is just the entry point. Presence is what makes people believe you can lead.
You’re not just showing your work. You’re showing how you think. You’re showing who you are.
So step up. Stand tall. And let the room know, Design just showed up.
