INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: why I keep writing here

Some of you have been reading my posts for a while, so here’s who I am and why I keep making this content.

I’m Blair Hasty. I’m an industrial designer with more than 20 years in physical product design, design leadership, and product development.

I’ve worked inside companies, built product lines, led design work for connected hardware, started my own product brand, launched through Kickstarter, dealt with manufacturing, customers, ecommerce, marketing, cash flow, and all the parts of product development that design school does not prepare you for.

Now I run Crafted by, a product design studio focused on helping companies make better physical products and better design decisions.

This content started because I kept having the same conversations with designers, founders, and product leaders. People were not short on talent. They were missing context, language, confidence, or a clearer way to explain why design matters before the damage is already done.

A lot of what I write here took me years to learn the hard way. I’m sharing it because industrial design needs to be understood better, both inside companies and inside our own community.
