INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS: a great product doesn't sell itself

Sales closes deals. Design delivers function. Marketing makes people care in the first place.

That difference matters because too many designers still think if we make it great, they'll find it. But that's not how it works.

You can sell garbage with good marketing. You can't sell gold without it. That disconnect is why so many Kickstarter projects fail. They don't know how to drive attention.

Marketing isn't a bonus. It's the only reason a product has a shot. Understanding that makes you a better designer. Ignoring it makes you replaceable.

These roles overlap in good teams. Product defines what to build. Marketing defines who it's for and why they'll care. Design figures out how to deliver both. When these conversations happen separately, you get products nobody wants or products nobody finds.

Stop treating marketing like the enemy of good design. It's the missing piece.
