INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS: good design has enemies
Speed. Cost. Consensus. All of them line up against originality.
It’s faster to copy. It’s cheaper to cut corners. It’s safer to choose what everyone already knows.
That’s why good design doesn’t happen by default. It has to be defended. Protected. Pushed through every tradeoff.
Not every fight is worth it. But the right ones define the product. And the designer who picks those fights earns their place at the table.
So, what’s the fight you’re in right now?
