INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS: perfectionism isn't high standards, it's fear
Perfectionism treats every attempt like your last shot. It's a scarcity mindset disguised as quality control.
Ideas and opportunities aren't rare. They feel rare when you never ship anything because it's not good enough yet.
The designers who succeed aren't the ones with perfect portfolios. They're the ones who put work out, get feedback, iterate, and move forward. Finished and imperfect beats perfect and theoretical.
Your first concept won't be your best. Your tenth probably won't either. But each one teaches you something. Each one gets you closer to work that matters.
Holding everything back until it's perfect doesn't protect your reputation. It guarantees you won't have one. No one remembers the designer who almost shipped something great.
Stop treating every project like your magnum opus. Treat it like practice for the next one.
