INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS: the future of design

We're rapidly approaching a point where AI can pump out product renderings, iterate on forms, and even generate technical drawings. But here's what it can't do: understand the messy reality of how people actually use things.

The design teams that will thrive aren't the ones with the flashiest AI tools, they're the ones people can trust to solve real problems. That means being present for the difficult conversations

about trade-offs. It means admitting when a concept isn't working and explaining why. It means understanding that behind every product brief is a person trying to build something meaningful.

AI might be able to generate a thousand variations of a chair, but it can't sit in a factory at 2 AM troubleshooting a manufacturing issue. It can't read the room when a client's vision doesn't align with user needs. It can't fix the mistakes that inevitably happen in complex projects.

The future of product development isn't about having the best algorithms. It's about being the design partner that they trust when everything feels uncertain.
