INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS: thoughts on Amazon’s smart glasses?
Amazon's new smart glasses for delivery drivers raise an interesting workflow question.
The concept makes sense on paper for hands-free package info, routing assistance, and address verification while staying mobile. But the demo footage is worth examining. Drivers receive constant prompts, voice commands, and visual overlays while working under strict time metrics. Is this reducing cognitive load or adding to it?
Good workflow design should remove friction by understanding where attention bottlenecks actually exist. The question is whether these interventions simplify decision-making at the right moments.
Every notification competes for attention already split between navigation, traffic, package handling, and delivery logistics. More data doesn't automatically mean better performance.
Maybe this approach works in practice. But it's worth asking whether the execution matches the promise.
