INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: runs on sacrifice

Not just the personal kind, though there's plenty of that. I mean the work itself. To get to the core of an idea you sometimes have to be willing to kill parts you love. The clever detail. The elegant tangent. The bit you were proudest of. Most of what makes something great is decided by what you're brave enough to cut, in sacrifice to the greater concept.

Content is no different. Almost every post I publish is the survivor of a much fuller, much clearer version I had to discard to appease the algorithmic gods. You get the essence. I keep the rest in a drawer.

That's why I'm starting a newsletter. Some of these thoughts just deserve a little more room to breathe, and I'd rather give them that than keep sanding them down to nubs.
