INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: the more you obey, the faster you disappear

Every category teaches its customers what to expect. Same materials, same proportions, same cues for trust and quality. Those conventions start as a service. They help a stranger understand a product in one second. Then they harden into a language everyone speaks at once, and fluency stops being an advantage.

This is the trap that can be hard to escape. A product can be well made, well resolved, correct in every detail, and still vanish. Because correct is now the baseline. The eye spends its attention on whatever refuses to sit still. The well-behaved object pays for its manners.

The work isn't disruption. Anyone can be loud. The work is judgment. It's knowing which convention is load-bearing and which is just habit dressed up as a rule. You keep what earns trust and break what survives only because no one questioned it, yet.
