INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS: No one's looking for you, you have to become visible

Marketing yourself isn't optional. It's how you turn years of expertise into opportunities. Every project you ship without selling it is someone else’s win. Every process insight you keep to yourself is a missed chance to show the value that you bring.

You spend months perfecting that radius, choosing the right finish, solving the mounting challenge that kept you up at night. The product ships and works beautifully. Now translate that work into something people can see and learn from. Take the technical decision you made about material selection and explain how it creates trust when someone picks up the product. Show the form study that didn't work but taught you something about user behavior.

Without you marketing your work, it gets attributed to the company. Your process stays mysterious. And when you're looking for that promotion or need that next role, you're starting from zero because nobody knows what you're capable of. Don't let years of hard-won expertise disappear. No one is going to discover you. You have to make it happen. Become your own champion.
