Why “Be Curious” should be your leadership strategy.
Design doesn't fail because the details are off. It fails when nobody knows how it fits into the rest of the system. Too many teams treat design as just another output, another screen, another CAD file. Another asset to request and move on. But real design leadership isn't about better artifacts. It's about better questions:
Why are we solving it this way?
What does "done" look like from the user's POV?
Who else needs to weigh in before we ship?
What assumption are we not challenging?
If you're leading design and not asking these constantly, your team will default to task completion, not impact creation. The hard part isn't training better designers. It's building a team curious enough to pierce silos, persistent enough to build new bridges, and strategic enough to see the forest through the tasks.
This is the work that transforms organizations. And it's the kind of work I want to lead.
